Physical therapy services are available to patients who may have functional limitations because of a prolonged illness, surgery, or hospitalization. We also offer occupational therapy to help patients regain function so they can perform daily tasks.
Our program includes the evaluation and treatment of patients who have acute neuromuscular or musculoskeletal conditions and those recovering from surgery or stroke. An initial assessment occurs within 24 hours of a doctor’s request.
All evaluations and treatments are performed by New York State–licensed physical therapists, who have extensive training in therapeutic interventions for orthopedic conditions, postsurgical recovery, and stroke rehabilitation. We work with physicians and rehabilitation specialists at the . To ensure the highest quality of care, our specialists attend continuing education seminars to stay up to date with the latest advancements in physical therapy.
As part of our work with patients who have neuromuscular conditions, we specialize in Baclofen trials. This is a process to assess whether a Baclofen pump—which delivers a muscle relaxant to manage spasticity, or the stiffening and contraction of muscles—is appropriate for patients. We also provide rehabilitation after Baclofen pump insertion to help patients adjust to changes in muscle tone after treatment.
As part of our mission to support our patients, we provide education about disease processes and exercise plans. In addition, we offer ongoing assessments to monitor progress and rehabilitation potential.

Speech–language pathologists at Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk provides evaluation and treatment for inpatients who are experiencing oral motor, swallowing, speech, language, cognitive, or voice disorders because of an illness, injury, or stroke.
All services are provided by speech–language pathologists who specialize in the evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, also known as swallowing disorders. Our pathologists are licensed by New York State and certified by the American Speech–Language–Hearing Association (ASHA).
These specialists provide inpatients and outpatients with an objective assessment of their swallowing function using video fluoroscopic studies, a specialized imaging test also known as a modified barium swallow.
