Nancy Sanchez
Executive Vice President and Vice Dean, Human Resources and Organizational Development and Learning
Nancy Sanchez, executive vice president and vice dean for human resources, is responsible for strategic human resource initiatives, practices, and overall operations that support more than 53,000 faculty, staff, and students across NYU Langone Health. Having started her career at NYU Langone Health in human resources (HR), she has held numerous positions across the field and has successfully ascended to leading the function for the entire health system.
Ms. Sanchez developed an early business philosophy: build an effective team with high service expectations and develop a strong partnership with all levels of employees in the organization. Part of her strategy has been to focus on ensuring strong foundational programs in benefits, compensation, wellness, service, and advocacy are in place. The programs are then complemented by initiatives that support the employee experience, engagement, and growth of those who aspire to assume higher roles within the organization and the overall professional development of all faculty and staff.
Among her recent efforts, Ms. Sanchez has focused on initiatives that advance the development of leadership skills of those who manage other faculty and staff, as she sees that population as the key to the employee experience, which is reliant on a strong relationship between a manager and staff. She consistently encourages her team to look for opportunities to automate and redesign processes to enable employees to easily access information. Additionally, in order to design and produce successful initiatives that support the vision and mission of the health system, her team has developed dashboards that enable assessment of delivered HR outcomes and workforce mobility. As the health system continues to expand exponentially, she continuously looks at opportunities to raise the bar on furthering the provision of high-quality human resource services and managing new challenges.
Operating under the belief that the most important and valued resource of the health system is its employees, Ms. Sanchez and her team are heavily investing in a talent management strategy that focuses on the advancement of a career ladder that is based on the development and strengthening of soft skills. In partnership with departmental leaders, her team has also grown over 25 different career option programs in which they sponsor and educate employees in order to grow an internal workforce for hard-to-fill roles.
Representing the “voice of the employee,” she continues to be a strong advocate within the organization for employees at all levels.
Ms. Sanchez holds a master of science from the Baruch/Cornell Program of Industrial and Labor Relations and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Hofstra University.
