As a neuroradiologist at NYU Langone, my philosophy of care centers on leveraging advanced imaging technologies to enhance patient outcomes. I am passionate about the intersection of clinical practice and research, particularly in the realm of neuroradiology, where I can directly impact patient care through innovative imaging techniques.

I specialize in the clinical use of positron emission tomography-magnetic resonance imaging (PET-MRI) for neuroradiology, focusing on imaging patients with brain tumors, epilepsy, and dementia. With over a decade of experience, I have established myself as an international leader in this field. As the director of PET-MRI for the NYU Department of Radiology, I oversee one of the busiest PET-MRI programs in the United States, performing 40 to 50 studies per week. This program supports more than ten NIH-funded investigations, underscoring our commitment to advancing medical knowledge and patient care.

Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to translational research, bridging the gap between clinical and MRI research to accelerate improvements in patient care. I have a strong reputation within the NYU Langone medical center and among industry collaborators for rapidly implementing novel imaging technologies into clinical practice. My work in brain mapping, particularly through functional MRI and diffusion tractography, has significantly contributed to preoperative planning for patients with brain tumors or epilepsy.

My journey into medicine was inspired by a deep-seated interest in the brain's complexities and the potential of imaging technologies to revolutionize patient care. I pursued my medical degree and doctorate to combine clinical expertise with research acumen, enabling me to contribute meaningfully to the field of neuroradiology. At NYU Langone, I am proud to collaborate with a dedicated team, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated care for our patients.

Research Summary

I am seeking to understand the how the structural and functional organization of medial temporal lobe structures and cerebral cortex are affected by diseases, such as epilepsy and Alzheimer?s disease. My approach is to use ex vivo MRI microscopy, advanced coil technology and ultra-high-field MRI of clinical patients to study human cerebral cortex and medial temporal lobe structures in normal and diseased states. The thesis of this research is that early changes to the functional organization of these structures can be detected by emerging MRI techniques during the preclinical stages of disease. This translational research focus could have an important impact on the contributions of neuroradiology to clinical management of patients, while also altering our fundamental understanding of local neuronal network organization in important brain substructures, such as the hippocampus.
