ÀÇÎѵ¼º½ Me
As a psychiatrist at NYU Langone, I provide compassionate care that respects and values each patient’s unique experiences. I strive to combine psychotherapy and psychopharmacology to promote mental wellbeing. I believe how care is delivered can significantly impact a patient’s experience toward recovery.
I specialize in perinatal psychiatry, focusing on the mental health of patients during and after pregnancy. This period is crucial, and untreated psychiatric conditions can have profound effects on both the parent and the child. With years of experience, I have honed my skills in managing these conditions, working closely with pediatricians and obstetricians to ensure comprehensive care. My commitment to this field is driven by the desire to prevent and minimize the harms associated with untreated mental health issues during this critical time.
My journey into psychiatry began during an HIV-related research project in South Africa, where I witnessed firsthand the power of listening and sharing stories in easing suffering. This experience inspired me to pursue a career in psychiatry, focusing on refining my skills in both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. At NYU Langone, my work is driven by a commitment to delivering the best possible care in the most humanistic and respectful manner.

Research Summary
My research is focused on the mental health of minoritized people, particularly women and birthing people. The broad aim of my work is to advance equitable provision of care and outcomes and to contribute to the understanding of all factors that produce current inequities.
My current projects in perinatal mental health include a scoping review of the perinatal mental health of black women and birthing people, a study of discriminatory and disrespectful language in the academic perinatal mental health literature, and an analysis of New York State and New York City PRAMS data to determine factors related to receiving mental health care for postpartum people with depression diagnoses.
Understanding the current challenges and experiences of learners and faculty who belong to groups that are underrepresented in medicine and psychiatry is another priority for my work. To this end, we are currently conducting a national survey of medical students and GME trainees focused on their educational experiences and needs.
An important aspect of my research process is to create pathways to medicine and psychiatry for students who are committed to promoting health equity in their current work and future careers. I encourage interested students to be in touch to learn about opportunities to get involved in my research.
