Most Americans refuse to take a sick day unless they simply can’t get out of bed. But many experts say it’s just as important to take a “mental health day” to address issues related to your psychological and emotional wellbeing. But when do you know it’s time to take action?
, the director of women’s mental health in the at NYU Langone Health, explains in a recent article in Women’s Health, that , day in and day out, can take a toll on a person’s mental health and interrupt important “protectors” like sleep.
One thing Dr. Ackerman recommends is “mindfulness meditation” whether it’s yoga or a day to sleep in. “It’s one thing that can improve your concentration,” Dr. Ackerman says, “which, in turn, can lead to stronger emotional wellbeing.”
